Wounaan weavers harvest chunga palm from the canopy and hand-split each fiber to near-thread fineness before coiling begins. The tighter the weave, the sharper the line, and this one is sharp. One of a kind.

Once dyed, the strands are braided into thick fat ropes, loose enough to pull a single thread free and add it to a piece in progress. Watching that never gets old.

The Making
