Thirty-Four Baskets,
None of Them Twice

Thirty-four palm baskets, woven by hand in Panama. Twenty are floral, color-soaked and full of movement. Fourteen are geometric, quieter and more exacting, the kind of piece that holds a room. Two of the geometrics are by a weaver named Sobeida, in black and white so finely detailed I bought a second rather than choose between them. One carries a motif I have never seen come from this tradition.
Because each piece is singular, there is no restocking and no second chance. When a basket finds its home, that exact pattern leaves with it. Collectors on our list see the full collection first.

First pick belongs to the people on our list. They hear before anyone.
Color-soaked and full of movement. No two florals repeat, because each weaver carries the pattern in her own hand.
Quieter and more exacting, the kind of piece that holds a room. Two are by the weaver Sobeida.
A note from Jen
I chose every one of these myself. A few I had to talk myself out of keeping: the two black-and-whites by Sobeida, the tiny two-inch basket that fits in your palm. What you are taking home is the hours, the hands, and the one moment this pattern existed.
