Crimson Wave Handmade Basket - Sculptural Ghana Woven Decor
NAN-029-030-031
Handwoven in Ghana |★★★★★
A sculptural wave-form basket handwoven in northern Ghana, shaped into flowing crimson curves that shift with light and perspective. Its undulating silhouette transforms traditional elephant grass weaving into a contemporary sculptural object — equally at home as functional tabletop storage or as a standalone decorative form. Approximately 20 inches wide and 16 inches tall. One of one.
The wave structure is formed while the elephant grass is still pliable, allowing master weavers to shape and lock in the curved silhouette as the fibers dry. No mold or internal support is used — the structure is entirely controlled through hand tension and timing. Natural plant dyes derived from pomegranate, hibiscus, and native fruits create deep crimson tones with subtle red and dark variations across the surface, shaped by absorption, fiber density, and drying conditions.
The form is developed in collaboration with Agyemang, who works directly with master weavers in northern Ghana’s Bolgatanga region to translate traditional basketry into refined sculptural design. Each piece is made within a community of skilled artisans whose weaving knowledge spans generations, with production focused on preserving technique while expanding contemporary form. These baskets are commissioned specifically for woven.art and are not available through any other US retailer.

In northern Ghana, master weavers transform tough elephant grass into large, sculptural handwoven baskets known for their strength and scale. Each basket is woven by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations, often taking several days to complete.
The larger forms require exceptional skill and significant amounts of fiber, making these artisan Ghana baskets both highly functional and impressive works of woven design.
