The One With the Collar
Of the shaggy Ghana baskets in the collection, this is the tailored one: a tall woven collar rising clean above the loose, hairy body, structure meeting wildness halfway. One of one.
The Story
Of the shaggy Ghana baskets in the collection, this is the tailored one: a tall woven collar rising clean above the loose, hairy body, structure meeting wildness halfway. It reads as sculpture from across the room and works hard as storage up close.
Frafra weavers in Ghana built it by hand from elephant grass, coiling the collar tight while leaving the body fibers long and free. One of one.
Ghana wavy baskets stopped me in my tracks at an international art market: wiggly, unstructured, unlike any basket I had followed before. They are what started my love of unusual shapes.
Best displayed on the floor where its full height and pattern can be appreciated from multiple angles. Works as a standalone sculptural centerpiece or paired with other Ghana woven forms for a layered interior composition. Its bold silhouette complements both modern and earthy design environments.
RFB buys directly from the weavers themselves and through their cooperative and tribal representatives, so each basket comes with its story intact.

Fairly Made. Community Driven.
Each wavy basket is purchased directly from the weavers' representative at fair prices that support families, preserve tradition, and sustain local economies.
In northern Ghana, master weavers transform tough elephant grass into large, sculptural handwoven baskets known for their strength and scale. Each basket is woven by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations, often taking several days to complete.
The larger forms require exceptional skill and significant amounts of fiber, making these artisan Ghana baskets both highly functional and impressive works of woven design.
