The Stand I Use Myself
Baskets this beautiful deserve to be seen straight on, not from above. This simple metal stand tilts a woven piece upright so the pattern faces the room, turning any shelf or console into a small gallery. It is the same stand I use for my own collection.
The low black profile disappears behind the basket, so all you see is the weave.
One honest note: the black coating on the metal often has a chip or two. Be assured, that spot is usually covered by the piece you display, so once your basket is on the stand you will not see it.
Which size do I need?
Pick a stand a little narrower than the base of the basket so it hides behind the piece. The width in each size name is the width of the stand itself; the height is how far it lifts the back of the basket, so a taller stand means a more upright display.
2″ W × 1″ H ($20): the lowest lift, for tiny treasures and minis
2″ W × 2″ H ($20): mini and palm-sized Wounaan baskets
4.5″ W × 2″ H ($80): gentle tilt for small bowls and plates, roughly 5–7″ across
5″ W × 2″ H ($80): low tilt for shallow bowls and discs, roughly 6–8″ across
5″ W × 8″ H ($80): upright display for small bowls and plates, roughly 6–9″ across
7″ W × 3″ H ($80): wide bowls and plates, roughly 8–12″ across
8″ W × 5″ H ($80): large bowls and Colombian werregue platters, roughly 10″ and up
4″ W × 9″ H ($80): the tallest lift, holding a plate or disc nearly vertical
Tall Rwandan agaseke, Ghana floor baskets and Emberá masks do not need a stand: the tall pieces stand on the floor and the masks hang on the wall. Not sure which size? Email jen@woven.art with the basket you have in mind.
