Indigo Swell Basket - Handwoven Ghana
NAN-034
Handwoven in Ghana |★★★★★
The Indigo Swell
A swell of deep indigo rolls through this sculptural Ghana basket, the curves shaped by hand while the elephant grass was still pliable and locked in as it dried. No mold, no frame, just tension and timing.
It comes from the same northern Ghana weaving tradition as our other wave forms, each one shaped differently because no two hands pull alike. Storage that behaves like sculpture. One of one.

RFB sources these baskets through African Straw Enterprise Ltd. (ASE), a Fair Trade certified enterprise (2023) founded by Coleman Atubilla that works with more than 5,000 women weavers across 13 villages in northern Ghana. Weavers receive 90% of their earnings upfront, and a portion of every sale is reinvested in their villages: four boreholes built so far for clean drinking water, plus ongoing support for school fees. Every RFB purchase supports that work.

Each wavy basket is purchased directly from the weavers' representative at fair prices that support families, preserve tradition, and sustain local economies.
In northern Ghana, master weavers transform tough elephant grass into large, sculptural handwoven baskets known for their strength and scale. Each basket is woven by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations, often taking several days to complete.
The larger forms require exceptional skill and significant amounts of fiber, making these artisan Ghana baskets both highly functional and impressive works of woven design.
