Just outside Panama City, in a village reached by winding turns and slower time, I spent the day with the six Jinguimia sisters. Master weavers. Daughters of tradition. Each working in a shared family lineage, each with her own hand.
Six sisters, one family signature
The Jinguimia sisters represent a distinct branch of the Wounaan basket-weaving family, working closer to Panama City than the Majé Jinguimias (Sara and Fredy). Whether they are all part of the same extended family is not fully documented, but the name is associated with skilled Wounaan basketry across multiple villages.
